Onboard the Newly Re-Imagined Disney Magic Day 2 - Atlantis

From my 4 Night Bahamian Disney Cruise - Jan 2014

After a delicious, yet healthy, breakfast at the buffet in Cabanas, we met our Port Adventures group in the Walt Disney Theater.  It was our day for fun and sun in the glorious Atlantis waterpark.  The only problem was that rain, wind and clouds had replaced the sun.  We were told we could downgrade our tour to leave out the waterpark since the weather wasn't cooperating with us.  Our new friends from dinner last night, Bethany and Kylee, were on the same tour and we all decided to be tough troopers and brave the chilly day to have fun on the water rides.  I mean how cold could it be in the Bahamas anyway?

Overcast skies with no sun in sight!

Turns out pretty cold!  We headed off the ship, took one step outside, felt the frigid wind, and knew that our trooper status was over.  Disney let us downgrade our tour with no penalty and we settled for the indoor aquarium in Atlantis.  I was so disappointed that I couldn't give the gift of endless water fun to my son but it was just too cold.  Who knew the polar vortex could reach this far south?

At Atlantis, we tried to salvage our day as best we could. We saw numerous types of fish, sharks and stingray at the largest aquarium in the Caribbean.  The amount of sea life was impressive but the crowds made it hard to enjoy and hard to stick near our guide to see what she was talking about. After the aquarium tour, we went outside to look for some lunch. We encountered closed restaruant after closed restaurant and finally settled on pizza at Atlantis. For dessert, we found a candy shop with every candy known to man which made Braden happy. I was not happy to pay the ridiculously high prices but I forked out the cash anyway. Without the warm sun, our day in Nassau was a bust so we headed back to the ship early.

Too cold for ice cream but the bench was fun!

Once back on board, Braden and I threw caution to the wind, put on bathing suits, and swam in the Goofy pool.  The heated water was warm enough as long as I kept moving.  Of course, my resilient son was fine and the best part was that we were the only ones crazy enough to be in the pool. Braden's favorite Disney move, Aladdin, finished up on the outdoor movie screen, we swam some more, and then hit the hot tub.  We comtemplated the AquaDunk but decided we were too cold so we got ready for dinner instead.

The Funnel Vision is a great place to watch movies

Night two had us eating at Carioca's, the South American restaurant inspired by The Three Caballeros (a movie made after Walt Disney's famous trip to South America).  The nice thing about the rotational dining is that you get to eat at a different restaurant each night and there is no need to make reservations.  We simply walked into the restaurant at our dinner time of 8:15 and were promptly seated at our table, ready and anxiously waiting for us.  At dinner, the mom's talked about the day we had like old friends, while the kids had fun playing together.  Bradford and April had some magic tricks up their sleeves to entertain the kids and we all enjoyed a lovely dinner.
